The Verve在之前的文章有提過，是英搖Brit-pop曲風一度和英國天團Oasis相抗衡的樂團。1989年他們成軍於英國南方的小城市，團員之間分分合合，直到1997年的【Urban Hymns】的專輯才將他們的歌唱事業帶向顛峰，先是推出本篇介紹的《Bitter Sweet Symphony》單曲，讓他們變成英國當時最受歡迎的樂團之一，接著推出《The Drugs Don't Work》這支單曲，成為The Verve在英國的首支冠軍單曲，暢銷曲《Lucky Man》和《Sonnet》也很快的接著推出。但吉他手McCabe在隔年退出巡迴演唱，經過一段風風雨雨的流言之後，隔年1999年The Verve正式宣佈解散，不過至今The Verve的歌曲仍是Brit-pop曲風相當有代表性的作品。解散之後該團的靈魂人物-主唱Richard Ashcroft開始發展個人音樂事業，至今出過兩張個人專輯。

《Bitter Sweet Symphony》這首歌曲在199年的電影Cruel Intentions（中譯：危險性遊戲）收錄為該片主題曲，片尾女主角（金髮尤物女主角Reese Witherspoon飾）帶著男主角的墨鏡和日記，開著男主角（Ryan Phillippe飾）遺留下來的雙人跑車離去的畫面，搭配此首歌曲，相信許多電影迷仍難以忘懷。（P.S：當時女主角Reese Witherspoon和男主角Ryan Phillippe合演該片時已結婚，兩人現已離異。）
